STF Portaplan
Portaplan makes available to Saskatchewan teachers and their family members who wish to purchase additional term life, dependant and accident insurance at group rates. The Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation established Portaplan in 1970.
Funding for the Plan is comprised of policyholder paid insurance premiums, based on the age of the insured policyholder. The Plan is self-supporting and all Plan costs (premiums paid to Manulife Financial, claims, reserves and administration) are covered trhough the rate differential charges (differences between what is billed to participants and what is remitted to the insurance company) and investment earnings.
Specific reserves are maintained to ensure the long-term stability of the Plan and to avoid rate fluctuations. The Plan’s risk is limited to the payment of any required premiums.
Portaplan is a not-for-profit insurance plan.
