Collective Bargaining
Every day we negotiate every aspect of our lives with our employers, our colleagues, our students, our family members and even ourselves. In a sense then, bargaining is a way of life.
Collective bargaining is the process by which teachers and their employers address issues related to salaries, benefits and working conditions to contribute to quality education in Saskatchewan. This process is set out in Sections 234 to 269 of The Education Act, 1995.
Bi-Level Bargaining
Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation members belong to both a provincial organization and a local teachers’ association, which work together to collectively bargain on behalf of all teachers. The Education Act, 1995 states which items are mandatory for negotiations at each level; however, the scope of bargaining has been expanded beyond the mandatory items listed in each section.
