This book is full of practical advice like this for women thinking of retirement. Enduring Harvests

Two recent books that are currently part of a Resources Centre display on foods and nutrition caught my eye.

Enduring Harvests: Native American Foods and Festivals for Every Season by E. Barrie Kavasch provides a month-by-month description of special days, ceremonies, powwows and feast days and the Aboriginal cuisines that are associated with them. The book contains over 150 recipes that have been adapted for today’s kitchens including mouth-watering entries for salsa cornbread, savory venison stew, and oyster-stuffed acorn squash.

The Hungry Brain

The Hungry Brain: The Nutrition/Cognition Connection by nutrition educator Susan Archibald Marcus, deals with such topics as childhood obesity, malnutrition of the brain, food allergies and biochemical imbalances. The author offers numerous strategies for teachers to use to encourage healthy lifetime eating behaviours in their students.
