Certification

Teacher CertificationAll persons who teach in Saskatchewan schools regulated by The Education Act, 1995, are required to hold valid Saskatchewan teaching certificates.

The Board of Teacher Education and Certification (Section 272, The Education Act, 1995) advises the Minister on teacher education programs and criteria for certification.

The Board is comprised of representatives of the Ministry of Education; the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation; the Saskatchewan School Boards Association; the League of Educational Administrators, Directors and Superintendents; the University of Saskatchewan; the University of Regina; the First Nations University of Canada; the Gabriel Dumont Institute; and other persons appointed by the Minister.

It is the teacher’s responsibility to determine eligibility for a teaching certificate in Saskatchewan before accepting a teaching position. Teachers must hold a valid Saskatchewan teaching certificate before beginning to teach or substitute teach in Saskatchewan.
