Saskatchewan teachers belong to a profession and a professional organization, the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation, in which the public has placed a high degree of trust to regulate themselves in the interest of children and society.

This public trust carries with it an expectation that each teacher will accept personal responsibility for their conduct and competency inside and outside their classroom. In return, teachers expect a certain level of respect for their professional knowledge, skills and decision-making that includes professional autonomy in their own education, ongoing professional development, and workplace environment.

Taking Your Place in the ProfessionBeginning teachers should be aware of the host of resources and support available to them from the STF to assist them as they embark on their professional career in the classroom. An example is the revised copy of Taking Your Place in the Professional Community.
