Code of Collective Interests
The Teachers’ Federation Act, 2006, specifies that one of the 14 purposes of the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation is “to promote and safeguard the interests of teachers and to secure conditions which will make possible the best professional service.” The Act recognizes that the public good is best served when teachers are organized into strong collectives that work to maintain among their members high standards of conduct.
It is one of the collective responsibilities of the teaching profession to ensure that all its members work under conditions that will attract dedicated and capable people to the teaching profession and enable them to provide high quality teaching services.
While teachers are dedicated, ethical, and competent professionals who serve children and education, they are also employees whose effectiveness may be affected for better or worse by their working conditions and benefits. The public may place even greater confidence in the teaching profession when it actively protects the collective interests of teachers and ensures teachers have the working conditions and benefits necessary to support the highest quality of teaching.
