Special Subject Councils
The Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation currently supports 32 special subject councils. These affiliates provide their members with publications, inservice programs, and other professional development assistance.
The general purpose of subject councils is to provide opportunities for professional development of its members. Special subject councils have been established in a variety of subject fields, service areas and interdisciplinary groups. Some special subject councils offer beginning teachers a complimentary one-year membership. A voucher is available to new Saskatchewan teachers in Taking Your Place in the Professional Community, a handbook for beginning teachers.
The success of the program is measured by teacher interest in becoming members and taking an active role in the work of the councils. Membership is not limited to teachers, but includes any person with a professional interest in the activities of the councils. Over 7,000 teachers presently belong to the 32 councils which are affiliated with the Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation.
