Members of the Joint Field Experience Committee work to maintain a strong field experience in teacher education through a partnership of the educational agencies in the southern region of the province in which the Faculty of Education, University of Regina places students for field experience.
Responsibilities include:
- Making recommendations to the Professional Development Committee at the Faculty of Education with respect to matters pertaining to field experiences and the professional development of students, teachers and faculty related to field experience.
- Advising the Director of Professional Development and Field Experiences about procedures for carrying out current policies related to the above.
- Reviewing policies relating to the above.
- Effecting appropriate liaison with the profession in order to bring concerns from the field to the attention of the faculty.
- Reviewing appeals from interns.
- Establishing ad hoc committees as needed for internship seminar and field experience revision.
The Committee consists of educational partners such as the Saskatchewan League of Educational Administrators, Directors and Superintendents of Saskatchewan, Saskatchewan School Boards Association, the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation, Ministry of Education, First Nations University of Canada and southern-based school divisions as well as representation from the University of Regina. Federation representatives on the Committee consist of teachers and in‐school administrators who have recently worked with student interns. The Committee typically meets two times a year, in November and May.

As referenced in Clause 12.3.2 of the 2019-2023 Provincial Collective Bargaining Agreement, a teacher acting as an elected or appointed member of a committee of the Federation who attends a meeting called by the Federation, shall be granted leave and shall suffer no loss of salary and benefits during the course of an academic year for any days required to fulfil the duties of that office.
The Federation aims to engage as many members as possible in organizational operations. Preference will be given to those who do not currently hold other positions in office, committees or boards; however, members may apply for as many openings as desired.
