Sixteen members required – Three-year term
The Federation is seeking educators who want to deepen their knowledge of mathematics, Indigenous culture and who are invested in creating inclusive, equitable mathematics classrooms. This committee will support teachers as they incorporate Indigenous ways of knowing into their own classroom.
Responsibilities of the Committee will be to create and facilitate math workshops throughout the province in collaboration with Elders and Knowledge Keepers.
The Committee will meet up to five times per year.
We are seeking:
- Federation members, and
- First Nations, Indigenous and Métis teachers in the federal system.
who have expertise and experience in one or more of the following:
- Mathematics pedagogy (K-12)
- Mathematics content knowledge (K-12)
- Indigenous ways of knowing mathematics
- Indigenous cultural knowledge
- Place- or land-based learning
- Cross-curricular planning and instruction
- Equity and access in the mathematics classroom.

As referenced in Clause 12.3.2 of the 2017-2019 Provincial Collective Bargaining Agreement, a teacher acting as an elected or appointed member of a committee of the Federation who attends a meeting called by the Federation, shall be granted leave and shall suffer no loss of salary and benefits during the course of an academic year for any days required to fulfil the duties of that office.
The Federation aims to engage as many members as possible in organizational operations. Preference will be given to those who do not currently hold other positions in office, committees or boards; however, members may apply for as many openings as desired.
