Teachers’ Long-Term Disability Plan Claims Committee

One member (including one chair) required – Three-year term, renewable.

Members of the Teachers’ Long-Term Disability Plan, who are not receiving benefits from the Plan, are invited to serve on the Committee.

Members of this Committee are responsible for the adjudication of applications for disability income benefits in accordance with Plan provisions and policies. Committee members will use critical-thinking skills to make decisions within a framework of established criteria using mature judgment. They will assess all benefit applications fairly, objectively and impartially and maintain strict confidentiality of applicant information. The Committee meets 10 times per year from September to June (Note: some meetings may only be one hour in length).

The successful candidate will have an interest in the welfare of fellow members, a sense of teamwork, possess integrity and a strong sense of ethics, and have the time, interest and willingness to serve.

As referenced in Clause 12.3.2 of the 2019-2023 Provincial Collective Bargaining Agreement, a teacher acting as an elected or appointed member of a committee of the Federation who attends a meeting called by the Federation, shall be granted leave and shall suffer no loss of salary and benefits during the course of an academic year for any days required to fulfil the duties of that office.

The Federation aims to engage as many members as possible in organizational operations. Preference will be given to those who do not currently hold other positions in office, committees or boards; however, members may apply for as many openings as desired.
