Binding Arbitration Hearing Concluded for Teachers and Government
News Release
The binding arbitration hearing between the Teachers’ Bargaining Committee and Government-Trustee Bargaining Committee concluded just after 6 pm today. The Arbitration Board will weigh the information presented and determine the award. The award is legally binding and will form part of the new Provincial Collective Bargaining Agreement, along with items previously agreed to. The Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation now awaits the Board’s decision and will provide comment at that time.

2024 CPP Enhancement: What You Need to Know

Effective January 1, 2024, the Canada Revenue Agency introduced phase two of its Canada Pension Plan (CPP) enhancements, aimed at providing Canadians with more pension income in retirement. The CPP provides basic income replacement for its contributors and their families when the contributor retires, dies or becomes disabled. It’s financed by contributions from employees, employers and self-employed individuals.

Do You Require Life Insurance? Portaplan Limit Increased to $600K
Pension & Benefits
Portaplan, the Teachers’ Optional Life Insurance plan, is increasing the maximum coverage available from $400,000 to $600,000 per person (subject to evidence of good health and Manulife approval). This increase offers policyholders more flexibility to cover debts and provide financial benefit to loved ones in the event of death.

The Beneficiary Rules in STRP Have Changed

Effective July 1, 2024, dependent children no longer have first entitlement (after a spouse) to your STRP death benefits. This change was made to align STRP’s rules with the rules provided under Saskatchewan pension legislation.
