The Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation extends sincere congratulations to two members who have been awarded the Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence. Shelley Smith was awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Play-Based Learning and Nat Banting received the Certificate of Excellence in Re-Imagining Math Learning.

“On behalf of Smith and Banting’s colleagues across the province, I want to extend a heartfelt congratulations to both of them for their dedication to the profession and their students,” said Patrick Maze, President, Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation. “They should both be very proud of this achievement and that they have excelled in their work, even during a pandemic.”

Smith is a kindergarten teacher at Holy Trinity Catholic School in Warman and Banting teaches math at Marion Graham Collegiate in Saskatoon.

“Teachers do incredible work each day. I hope these awards also serve as reminder to all teachers of the importance of their work and the contributions of the profession to their students and our communities,” said Maze.

More information on Smith and Banting’s contributions to the teaching profession and their achievements can be found in the Prime Minister’s Awards for Teaching Excellence and Teaching Excellence in STEM announcement.
