Teachers Agree to Binding Arbitration for New Provincial Collective Agreement
News Release
The STF has agreed to participate in binding arbitration for the issues of wages and class complexity-accountability framework. The decision was made following extensive consultation with members that took place this week. As a result, the current provincewide work-to-rule sanction will cease today, June 14, 2024, at 4 p.m. and there will be no further sanctions.

Negotiations to Resume Wednesday for Provincial Collective Bargaining Agreement

Negotiations will resume Wednesday, June 5 for a new provincial collective bargaining agreement after an invitation by the Teachers’ Bargaining Committee to return to the bargaining table was accepted by the Government-Trustee Bargaining Committee.

Saskatchewan Teachers Reject Tentative Agreement

The majority of teachers in Saskatchewan have voted against a tentative Provincial Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Teachers’ Bargaining Committee and Government-Trustee Bargaining Committee. In voting held Wednesday and Thursday, 55 percent of teachers opposed the agreement, with 88 percent of eligible voters casting a ballot.

Saskatchewan Teachers Renew Mandate for Job Sanctions

Teachers have once again shown their resolve for implementing job sanctions, should the Government of Saskatchewan and Government-Trustee Bargaining Committee once again refuse to bargain in good faith on a provincial collective agreement. After two days of voting on May 15 and 16, 83 percent of teachers cast a vote, with 95 percent of voters supporting further sanctions, if needed.

Teachers to Vote on Renewed Sanctions Mandate

On May 15 and 16, Saskatchewan teachers will vote on giving the STF Executive a mandate to implement sanctions beyond the current school year, as the existing mandate expires on June 30, 2024. The goal of the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation is to reach a new provincial collective bargaining agreement at the negotiating table without further interruptions to students and families, but after a year of strained negotiations, the STF must prepare for the possibility that government’s intransigence could continue into the next school year now that its final offer has been decisively rejected by teachers. The mandate resulting from the upcoming sanctions vote will be in effect until an agreement is reached.
