Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation President Congratulates New Saskatchewan NDP Leader
The President of the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation, Patrick Maze, today offered his sincere congratulations to Ryan Meili, the new leader of the Saskatchewan New Democratic Party. Meili was elected at a leadership convention in Regina on Saturday, March 3.
“I was able to attend both recent leadership conventions, and was excited by the enthusiasm, the energy and the commitment I heard about the future of education,” Maze said.
“However, we now have a new Opposition Leader and a new Premier, and it’s time to begin turning some of those ideas into reality.”
Maze said teachers across the province will be watching to make sure promises articulated during both leadership campaigns are acted on.
“Over the past year, $54 million has been taken out of the education system, while enrolment continues to increase and the number of teachers in the classroom declines,” Maze said.
“We would like to see some signal that both parties are working together to reverse this trend, and address the needs of students enrolled in public education.”
