Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation Congratulates New Lieutenant Governor Russ Mirasty
SASKATOON – Teachers in Saskatchewan offer their sincere congratulations and best wishes to Russ Mirasty as he assumes his new role as the first Indigenous Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan. “This appointment sends a strong, positive message for both reconciliation and education in the province,” said STF President Patrick Maze.
Mirasty has contributed to Saskatchewan education in his past role as an independent advisor to the Student First initiative in 2013 and 2014, and will serve as a positive role model for the education sector. His commitment to community, education, and reconciliation will be a great asset to the province’s ongoing work in public education. On Mirasty’s long and decorated career, Maze noted that, “Having an Indigenous Lieutenant Governor is a major advancement in promoting education and understanding across peoples and cultures, which is our priority as teachers.”
