REGINA–In a submission released October 3, Saskatchewan’s school boards are sharing that they consistently heard about the importance of Connections for education during local public engagements conducted earlier this year.

The report from boards to the Minister of Education highlights the need to enhance and expand Connections for education in three categories of main findings: Connections Among People and Relationships; Connections Between Systems and Structures; and Connections to the Future and Navigating Technology.

Previously, there has often been a certain level of frustration when it came time for Professional Growth Networks Day, as trying to entice new members was an annual challenge.

This year, however, there was a palpable energy and passion that was readily evident commencing from the sharing of personal stories from the panel members.

That was only further confirmed as 24 of the 28 PGNs participated in a carousel/open space session. There were 66 folks from throughout the province who had given up their autumn Saturday, and by all accounts, it was not a decision they regretted.

In a move designed to meet its diverse mandate of serving teachers in the province, the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation will in future have two Associate Executive Directors, each with their own specific responsibilities. 

Milton Block has been a member of the senior administrative staff for 16 years. He had earlier spent 15 years with the Saskatchewan Valley School Division as a teacher and principal. Ian Krips arrived at the Federation in 2006 bringing 16 years of teaching experience with Saskatoon Public Schools.

As Multi-Faith Saskatchewan celebrates a decade of its Youth Visual Art Project, David Katzman is encouraging teachers throughout the province to try and convince as many of their Grade 9 to 12 students as possible to enter this time around.

Katzman, who spent three decades as a teacher and school administrator, is a board member of Multi-Faith Saskatchewan and co-chair of the project.
