To support teachers’ growth as professionals, the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation and Saskatchewan Professional Developtment Unit offer various kinds of ongoing programs and services as well as some shorter term learning activities. All of these initiatives are based on the basic principle that teachers’ professional growth should be designed and facilitated by teachers.
At the STF, Member Services is here to serve you – the teachers of Saskatchewan – by offering a number of professional growth opportunities, supports and services. This includes supports and services provided by SPDU and the Stewart Resources Centre.
Our staff works closely with teachers from across the province to plan and deliver a wide range of exciting and innovative professional growth opportunities. We are exicted to unveil the new look for the professional growth opportunities available to members. In addition to the new look, several changes have been applied to summer programming and the registration process for professional growth opportunities.
New Registration Process
In order to plan program offerings accordingly, members are encouraged to register at least 10 days prior to an event. You will still be able to register between two and 10 days prior to an event, but increased registration rates will apply.
Why the change in process? Our statistics show that 13 per cent of registrations are received in the last five days leading up to an event. This means that program organizers have to estimate if the minimum number of registrations required for an event will be received before the event date. If the event goes ahead, organizers are scrambling to prepare additional resources for late registrants, or if the event is cancelled, then members are disappointed.
The increase in registration rates within the 10-day period is an incentive for members to register early. By following this process, registration numbers can be confirmed in advance, which in turn, will help to avoid the need to cancel events and allow members the flexibility to plan their professional development schedules ahead of time. If a cancellation does occur, it will be communicated in a timely manner so that you have time to make the necessary adjustments for travel, lesson and unit plans and substitute teacher bookings.
This new process will come into effect on July 1 for summer programming and will remain in effect
for the Fall/Winter Professional Growth Opportunities.
