SUM (Saskatchewan Understands Math) Conference 2019

This event is brought to you by the Saskatchewan Mathematics Teachers' Society.

The Saskatchewan Understands Math (SUM) conference is for mathematics educators teaching in Grades K-12 and all levels of educational leadership interested in mathematics curriculum, instruction, number sense, problem-solving, culturally responsive teaching, and technology integration, and will bring together international and local facilitators to work in meaningful ways with participants in a variety of formats.

Robert Berry is president of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), a 50,000-member international mathematics education organization. He is a Professor in the Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia, with an appointment in Curriculum Instruction and Special Education. Berry teaches mathematics methods courses in the teacher education program at the University of Virginia. Additionally, he teaches graduate-level mathematics education courses and courses for in-service teachers seeking a mathematics specialist endorsement. He is a former middle school teacher and was twice named Teacher of the Year in Virginia.

Ruth Beatty teaches the mathematics methods course for teacher candidates in the Faculty of Education at Lakehead University. At present, she is working with members of Anishinaabe communities and educators from northern Ontario school boards to explore how to incorporate Indigenous ways of knowing mathematics into the Ontario math curriclum.

Christina Ruddy, the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation, is Operations Manager at the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation museum and cultural centre Omamiwinini Pimadjwowin and an expert loomer.
