Stress Management

Your STF benefits are here when you need them

While the COVID-19 pandemic continues to create uncertainty across the globe, the STF is committed to supporting the mental, physical and financial well-being of you and family. Our team is taking extensive measures to ensure that we are able to provide the service you need while also taking the proper precautions necessary to ensure the health and safety of our members and employees. All of your benefit plans are still running and accessible to you. We encourage you to utilize the resources you need at this time.

The STF’s Member & Family Assistance Program is designed to provide you and your family short-term counselling if you are feeling overwhelmed. Their professional intake team is available any time of day, any day of the year if you need help coping. Log in to MySTF and visit the MFAP page for contact information.

We’ve changed the way we operate

We are doing our part to stop the spread of coronavirus in our province by practicing social distancing recommendations and working from home. As a result, our internal processes and the ways we are able to serve you have changed:

  • The STF office is closed to the public and members are not able to meet with pension and benefit representatives in person at this time.
  • Our phone lines are still open, and we are checking messages regularly. However, the best way to get a prompt response on your request is to send us an email.
  • Newsletters will not be sent via regular mail until further notice. We will be sending newsletters via email for the time being.
  • We are prioritizing our work to ensure all core functions are maintained, including processing pension and disability payments. We will continue to respond to your inquiries, however there may be a slight delay in our response as we adapt to our new work environment.

We are keeping long-term goals in view

You may have questions about how the pandemic and resulting economic downturn will affect your pension. Remember, one of the advantages of your pension plan is that investment results do not directly impact your pension amount. Instead, your pension is calculated using a formula that takes into account your years of service and your earnings.

While the economic downturn may have some short-term effects on funding levels, the nature of funding pensions requires investing over long-term time horizons. Our funds are well-diversified to minimize market volatility and reduce exposure to excessive risk. Our team continues to monitor the situation on a daily basis and look for opportunities to enhance the returns as the economy rebounds.

Find us online

There are self-serve options available to you online to complete some pension and benefit-related tasks. This includes things like getting a pension estimate, submitting health claims through Canada Life GroupNet or even looking into the cost of the STF’s Optional Life Insurance (formerly Portaplan).
