I Have a Break In My Teaching Service

If you are on paid short-term sick leave… You and the Saskatchewan government will continue to contribute to the Plan, and you will continue to earn pension service.

If you receive benefits from the Teachers’ Long-Term Disability Plan… You will continue to earn pension service but will not need to contribute to the Plan.

If you take a leave of absence… You will not earn pension service or make contributions during your leave. This means you will have a gap in pension service as a result.

However, you may have the option to purchase the service lost during an approved leave of absence like maternity or parental leave. Purchasing service will increase your monthly pension and may help you retire earlier with an unreduced pension. Visit the Maximizing Your Retirement section of the e-guide for more information.
