Join us for Empowering Educators: Evidence-Based Foundations for Literacy Instruction, a three-day workshop designed for K–3 teachers in Saskatchewan.
This pilot project is developed and delivered by Saskatchewan teachers and supported by the Saskatchewan Ministry of Education to advance provincial K–3 literacy goals. Substitute costs will be reimbursed for workshops held from March 2026 to May 2026.
This session will strengthen your understanding of literacy acquisition, evidence-based reading practices, and responsive assessment strategies to support student success.

Session Schedule
Explore foundational concepts: phonics, fluency, vocabulary development, comprehension, and multi-tiered systems of support — all aligned with the updated curriculum scope and sequence.
Teachers will deepen their understanding and instructional skill set in the following areas.
Curriculum Actualization and Foundational Concepts
- Foundational language system knowledge in relation to literacy acquisition
- Understanding the brain and its interconnected systems for reading and writing
- The role of executive function in literacy acquisition
Evidence Based Practices across Multiple Components of Reading
- Phonological processing and high impact skills in phonemic awareness
- Phonics instruction and decoding for growth in orthographic mapping skills
- Fluency impacts and bridging strategies to comprehension
- Impacts of Vocabulary and knowledge building on reading and comprehension
Assessment and Multiple Measures of Reading
- Using levels of assessment such as screener, diagnostic, benchmark and curriculum-based measures
- Assessment measures across the components of reading
Assessment for Responsive Instruction
- Evidence-based practices in grade-alike instructional groupings
- Responding to assessment data using multi-tiered systems of support
- Connecting instruction and assessment to curriculum actualization
Substitute teacher costs are reimbursed as per the local implementation and negotiation committee (LINC) agreement in place between the school division and local association. When entering your absence, please consult with your school division to use the absence code that will charge the STF substitute costs ONLY.
Note: Substitute costs will only be covered for workshops held from March 2026 to May 2026.
