Enhancements Coming to Teachers’ Long-Term Disability Plan
Updates to the Teachers’ Long-Term Disability Plan are being introduced to support a more streamlined and member-focused experience. These enhancements are intended to provide more timely service and improved support for members throughout their LTD process.
Here is an Overview of What to Expect:
More Timely, Year-Round Claims Review
Under the updated approach, LTD applications will be reviewed by a professional case manager on a more frequent, year-round basis. This means applications will no longer wait for the monthly Claims Committee meetings (September to June). Instead, claims will be reviewed in a shorter timeframe to support a more efficient process.
Enhanced Wrap-Around Support
Every member currently receiving LTD benefits, and those who may access LTD in the future, will have the support of a dedicated disability case manager. Case managers bring experience in mental health, nursing, health-care systems, physiotherapy, rehabilitation and related fields. Their role is to help members navigate available health resources, understand rehabilitation options and explore return-to-work planning, when appropriate.
This approach is intended to offer earlier guidance, clearer pathways and a more connected, member-centred experience.
Support for Recovery and Return-to-Work Planning
With assistance from their case manager, members on LTD will receive support in accessing medical and rehabilitation resources. As a member’s health improves, the case manager will work with them to consider suitable return-to-work planning options. This enhanced model is designed to provide co-ordinated support throughout a member’s recovery journey.
