Purchasing Service Prior to Retirement?

January 8, 2026

If you plan on purchasing pension service before you retire, please give yourself a year to complete the process.

Why does it take a year?
Purchasing service involves several steps, and giving yourself a full year ensures that there’s enough time to:
• gather and submit the required information.
• have the STRP pension specialists prepare your quote.
• review the information and decide if you want to purchase the service or not.
• allow additional time if a Past Service Pension Adjustment (PSPA) needs to be submitted to the CRA before the purchase can be finalized.

You can read more details on the Purchases of Service page on the STF website.
