Voluntary Contributions Just Got Easier
We’ve simplified how voluntary contributions work to make things easier for you!
Starting in the 2026 calendar year, you no longer need to submit a request and wait for us to calculate your personal maximum. Instead, every member can rely on one clear limit:
Annual maximum: $3,000
Payroll deduction option: Up to $300/month
Part-time members: Your maximum is simply prorated based on your contract percentage
No more quote request. No more back-and-forth. Just a straightforward, simple way to make additional savings for your retirement.
Why should you choose voluntary contributions?
What are voluntary contributions?
Voluntary contributions are extra amounts you choose to save on top of your required pension contributions.
How do voluntary contributions work?
Voluntary contributions are credited to your own separate voluntary contribution account where they earn the STRP fund’s net rate of return. Voluntary contributions are subject to the annual maximum limit of $3,000 for 2026.
You can make voluntary contributions in two ways:
1. Monthly payroll deductions – fill out an Authorization for Voluntary Contributions Through Payroll Deductions form to set up automatic deductions from your pay and complete and send in the Authorization to Deposit Funds to Voluntary Contribution Account form.
2. Lump-sum payments – send in a personal cheque made payable to the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Retirement Plan and complete and send in the Authorization to Deposit Funds to Voluntary Contribution Account form.
What are the benefits of making voluntary contributions?
Voluntary contributions:
• Are tax-deductible, just like RRSP contributions.
• Can be used to purchase eligible service (such as parenting leaves).
• Let you save easily through automatic payroll deductions.
• Grow with compound interest over time.
• Benefit from the pension fund’s net rate of return.
• Include lower investment fees and access to professional
fund management.
