Responding to Children’s Interests – Asynchronous

This course was developed by Tanya Mazurek and Melissa McFarlane.
Prerequisite: Phase I and II of Play and Exploration or comparable learning and experience working in early learning settings.
Based on a foundation of the vision and principles in Play and Exploration: Early Learning Program Guide, Responding to Children’s Interests will provide educators with opportunities to explore classroom practices to spark student interest and to build projects around invitations and play. This workshop was created in partnership with the Early Years Branch of the Ministry of Education. This course is delivered fully online, in a self-paced environment. Course completion includes upload of a completed project with students. Learning Outcomes:
- Build understanding about emergent curriculum for young children.
- Explore the environment as the third teacher.
- Strengthen educators’ capacity to observe, listen, document and reflect in order to support and scaffold learning.
- Respond to children’s interests and develop a project experience with children, which may be shared on the STF website.

Refund Policy: The refund deadline for workshops is 5 business days prior to the start date. Refunds for Asynchronous courses will not be provided once online course materials are accessed. Registrants who withdraw prior to the refund deadline are entitled to a full refund or transfer of their registration fee. Refunds are provided to the registrant or the organization that submitted payment.
If notification of withdrawal is received after the refund deadline and up to the commencement of the session, 50 percent of the registration fee will be refunded.
Cancellation Policy: Occasionally, due to circumstances beyond our control, a workshop may be cancelled. We will notify you by email using the address provided at registration. To ensure you receive any updates, please check your email regularly during the 48 hours leading up to the workshop start date.
If a cancellation occurs, a full refund will be issued to the registrant or the organization that paid the registration fee.
Photographs may be taken during the workshop for promotional and publication purposes. If you do not consent to the use of your image, please inform us in advance.
