As teachers, we believe in providing a safe space for all children and staff within our schools; however, the actions and words of others have damaged that safe space. The intolerance displayed in recent days demonstrates a lack of understanding and an unwillingness to listen and learn. The experiences of vulnerable groups are real, and are not to be dismissed. The lives of children should not be used as political fodder purposefully designed to divide communities.

A new study by University of Ottawa researchers is bolstering calls by the Canadian Union of Public Employees and the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation to address disturbingly high rates of workplace violence and harassment in Saskatchewan schools.

Throughout July and August, the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation and Food Banks of Saskatchewan partnered for a second summer of the Food to Learn campaign. Organizers are thrilled to share that the fundraising goal was surpassed for a second year, as Food to Learn helped raise over $72,000 for Saskatchewan’s 36 food banks and the people who rely on them.

Dates have been finalized for arbitration proceedings between the Teachers’ Bargaining Committee and the Government-Trustee Bargaining Committee. The arbitration hearing will take place December 16 to 20 in Saskatoon.

The Teachers’ Bargaining Committee has selected its nominee for the three-person arbitration panel that will hear submissions on the issues of class complexity-accountability framework and wages. Dates for binding arbitration will be confirmed shortly.

The plan, which currently has 29,341 members, is still financially stable, healthy and fully funded.
